Yadlapati Venkata Rao, a veteran Telugu Desam politician, died early Monday in Hyderabad owing to old age.He was 102 years old at the time. He died in his daughter’s home in Hyderabad, where he had been staying for quite some time.
Venkata Rao was a member of the Congress in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh from 1967 to 1980, as well as a minister in the late Chief Minister Marri Channa Reddy’s Cabinet.
He became a member of the Telugu Desam Party in 1983 and served as the chairman of the party’s farmers’ unit for many years.He became Chairman of the Guntur Zilla Parishad in 1995 and a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1998.
N Chandrababu Naidu, the TDP chief, led several of his party’s leaders in paying tribute to the late leader.The Vice-President, as well as a number of other political figures, expressed their sorrow at the senior leader’s passing.
